How we treat it

Mood stabilising medication, careful monitoring, and psychoeducation for the patient and family. Acute manic episodes may need short inpatient admission.

Signs to look for

  • Elevated or irritable mood
  • Reduced need for sleep
  • Rapid speech and racing thoughts
  • Overspending or risky decisions
  • Depressive episodes in between
